Stop Relying on Friends and Family

This strategy might give you fast results and high hopes from the get-go, but in reality, it's going to keep you stuck and broke.

So, let's talk about prospecting friends and family and why it's actually a short-term strategy.

When you first join your network marketing company, going to your friends and family makes sense.

If you are brand new to network marketing, you want to be speaking to the people who know, like, and trust you—those people who love you, who are your friends and family.

So, it's a great place to start.

We are not saying don't go and speak to your friends and family.

If you've been in network marketing for a while and you've already spoken to your friends and family, we're going to suggest you don't go back to them and tell them all about your next amazing new opportunity, and then the next one, and then the next one because it's going to kind of peeve them off a little bit.

But it is a great short-term strategy.

After a while, though, they're doing it because they love you and want to support you, but they're probably not going to stick around forever.

We've been there—where we recruited all our friends and family and then our team literally fell apart.

They don't have that entrepreneurial drive, probably.

Some of them may, but generally, they probably don't have that entrepreneurial drive and they're just doing it to support you short-term.

Prospecting friends and family is a good way to start, but it's not sustainable.

You'll need to move beyond this circle to build a lasting and successful network marketing business.

Moving Beyond This Short Term Strategy

We need to think about what's best for the long term.

You don't want to end up with no friends left because you've turned every conversation into a sales pitch.

Think about the times you've gone over your list of a hundred friends, family, and coworkers, again and again, until they started hiding from you.

It's not a sustainable way to build your business.

One of the Beaches, Cari, had someone literally hiding from her in the grocery store just to avoid another business talk.

We've all done it, and it's a part of learning and growing.

But there comes a point where you have to move beyond this approach.

It’s not that prospecting friends and family is wrong; it’s just not effective in the long run.

We ran out of people to talk to within two months and felt stuck.

We weren't willing to start prospecting strangers in stores like some people do.

That’s just not us.

We need to be taught strategies that save us time, effort, and sanity.

Instead of just relying on friends and family, focus on growing a broader audience.

Find ways to connect with people who are genuinely interested in what you offer.

The Importance of a Targeted Network

Building a targeted network is crucial for long-term success in network marketing.

Often, friends and family might support you just to be nice, or to avoid awkwardness, but that doesn’t mean they are genuinely interested in or committed to your business.

The real key to sustainable growth lies in expanding your network beyond this initial group.

Think about it: you may have a few friends and family members who are motivated, driven, and looking for opportunities.

These are the people you want to approach.

But once you've connected with them, what's next?

That's where building a broader, more targeted network comes in.

A targeted network means identifying and connecting with individuals who share your interests, values, and ambitions.

These are people who are more likely to be interested in what you have to offer and more likely to stick around for the long haul.

By focusing on a specific group, you can tailor your approach and message, making it more effective and appealing.

To build this network, you need to step out of your comfort zone.

Start attending events, joining online communities, and engaging with people who fit your ideal prospect profile.

Think of it as planting seeds; the more seeds you plant, the more opportunities you create for growth.

Over time, these connections can develop into strong, mutually beneficial relationships.

Remember, the goal is to create a new warm market of people who know, like, and trust you.

By continually expanding this network, you ensure that you always have a pool of potential prospects, keeping your business vibrant and dynamic.

So, invest the time and effort into building a targeted network—your future success depends on it.

Strategies for Building Your Network

So, how do you grow that targeted audience and build genuine relationships quickly?

The first step is identifying your perfect prospect.

Who is the ideal person you want to work with?

Understand their characteristics, interests, and behaviors.

Once you know who they are, you'll know where they spend their time online and who they follow.

This knowledge allows you to dive into social media and start growing your audience of like-minded individuals – those entrepreneurs who are just like you.

Active and passive prospecting are key here.

Actively engage in groups where your prospects hang out, participate in discussions, and build relationships.

On the passive side, leverage ads and videos to attract your audience.

Use short videos, long videos, reels, and TikTok content with relevant keywords.

These keywords help your content land in front of the right people, making them feel like you're speaking directly to them.

You can also tap into other people's audiences to expand your network.

Collaborate with influencers or join webinars where your ideal prospects might be.

Always be authentic – no “fake it till you make it” mentality.

Be genuine and true to yourself.

When your prospects see you consistently being yourself across posts, stories, and ads, they will feel a connection and trust you.

Building real relationships is crucial.

When prospects see you as the same person they've watched and read about, it creates a sense of familiarity and trust.

They feel like they've come home and found someone who truly understands and can help them.

While prospecting friends and family is okay for beginners, it’s a short-term strategy.

For long-term success, focus on building a network of perfect prospects.

Don’t rely solely on your upline; take initiative and learn these strategies yourself.

By doing so, you'll create a strong, authentic network that sustains your business growth.
