Pinocchio isn’t the only one who gives off a visible clue when they lie.

A lot of people have a sixth sense that alerts them to something that isn’t quite truthful.

And the last thing you want to do as a network marketer is trigger that sixth sense in someone.

One area where network marketers might get caught stretching the truth is about whether or not they regularly use their own products.

Don’t lie; try them out. Here are seven reasons you should test your MLM products before selling them.

1. You (Hopefully) Like Them

Ideally, you joined the MLM you did because you like the products and want to help others have access to them. (And, of course, you’re also trying to figure out how to make money with an MLM.)

Persuading someone to buy something you love is a lot easier than convincing them to buy something you are only kinda-sorta-vaguely familiar with.

We’re not going to tell you how to live your life, but if you dislike the products you’re selling, you might want to rethink whether or not this is the right MLM for you.

2. You Will Learn

You can read all the product descriptions you want, but nothing beats firsthand experience.

Using your own senses instead of relying on someone else’s account of a product will allow you to really cement what that product is like for you.

You will learn nuances about your products.

You’ll even figure out some of the not-so-great aspects of your product that you can truthfully share with your customers.

Obviously, you don’t want to undermine your company, but sharing an aspect of the product that is less than ideal helps your customers know they can trust you because you’re being honest.

The more you know about your products, the better you’ll be able to help your customers.

When your customers come to you with specific needs, you are better suited to help them out if you know your way around the products.

3. Your Customers Will Know

When you are passionate about what you have to offer, your customers will be able to tell.

Passion translates to authenticity pretty easily.

When someone is truly passionate about something, it can incline others to want to give it a try.

Your honest, raving review could help you upsell your customer to include some of your favorites in their order.

You will also be able to give a better demonstration of your products if you are familiar with them.

The better you know your way around the products, the more natural the demonstration will flow.

4. You Get a Discount

Most (if not all) MLMs offer discounts to their network marketers.

So why not try out all the latest and greatest they have to offer?

They are constantly rolling out new products to meet their customers' needs.

Use that discount to stay up-to-date on the company’s catalog.

Along those lines, many companies take care of their top earners and send them samples.

Meet your goals, and you might be able to try out the products for free.

5. You Can Genuinely Recommend Them

The online product description only covers so much.

When you have used a product, you can sing its praises for all to hear.

You can fill in any gaps the description leaves.

Your personal review can help on-the-fence customers go from “add to cart” to “complete purchase.”

6. You Exude Commitment

If you’re all in with your products, your customers will notice.

Sell books? What’s on the bookshelf behind you in your reels?

Sell makeup? Freshen up before jumping in front of the camera. (A “get ready with me” (GRWM) video would really do the trick.)

Whatever it is you sell, let your followers and customers know you are dedicated to the brand.

They’ll notice.

7. You Will Influence Your Team

You might not consider yourself an influencer just yet, but you do have a realm of influence regardless of your follower number.

Specifically, your downline will be looking to you to help teach them how to succeed in multi-level marketing.

If you hold Zoom calls with your team and they can see your growing stash of products, or you share a message in the group chat about how much you love a new release, they’ll notice that you’re buying the products.

You will probably influence them to buy some, too.

And in many cases, those downline sales will bolster your own numbers.

Don’t be afraid to send some of your earnings from your MLM payouts right back to the company in the form of an order.

There’s a reason you fell in love with this company in the first place. Don’t forget it.
