Table of Contents
When someone tells you to “just get on social media and start creating content,” does it feel like someone handed you the controls of a 747 and said fly it? It's easy.
Yeah. That was me in 2016.
I couldn't even copy and paste when I started building my business online. Not a joke. And today I've helped over 350,000 network marketers build their businesses on social media and recruited over 3,000 people into my own team.
The secret wasn't becoming a tech wizard. It was finding a simple system and being willing to show up imperfectly.
Here's what nobody tells you: you do not need to be tech savvy to build a network marketing business on social media. You need a simple system, a few basic skills, and the willingness to be a real human on the internet. That's it.
The Real Reason You're Stuck (It's Not the Tech)
When most people say “I'm not tech savvy,” what they actually mean is one of three things.
They're afraid of looking stupid. They don't know where to start. Or they've tried before and it felt like a disaster – bad lighting, a graphic that looked like a ransom note, accidentally going live when they meant to take a photo.
None of those are permanent problems. They're learning curves. And the learning curve is a lot shorter than you think.
Every person you see crushing it on social media right now posted a terrible first reel. Every single one of them had a phase where they had no idea what a hashtag did. They just didn't let it stop them.
The tech is not the barrier. The fear of the tech is the barrier.
Step 1: Grow – Get Seen by New People (No Fancy Tools Required)
The whole point of the grow phase is expanding your audience and getting in front of people who don't already know you.
You don't need fancy tools to do it. You need to show up consistently with content that helps or inspires people. That's it.
Pick one platform and master it.
Right now Instagram is giving the most organic – meaning free – reach, especially with Reels.
If your audience is 30 and over, start there.
Hook your Instagram to your Facebook and let it cross-post automatically. That's two platforms for the effort of one.
Stop trying to be everywhere. Pick one. Get comfortable. Expand later.
Learn just three things on that platform.
How to write a text post. How to post a photo with a caption. How to record a short Reel.
Those three skills will carry you further than you think.
You don't need transitions, trending audio, professional lighting, or fancy editing. You need your face and your voice out there.
Use the ugly first draft method.
Give yourself permission to be bad at this.
Your first ten posts are going to be rough. Your first video will feel awkward. That's fine because nobody's really watching yet.
You're building the muscle. The only way to get good is to go through the bad phase first, and the faster you embrace that, the faster you get to the other side.
Step 2: Engage – Build Real Relationships (Zero Tech Skills Needed)
Here's the beautiful thing about the engage phase. It requires absolutely zero tech skills. Engagement is just talking to people, and you already know how to do that.
Start with the 5-5-5 method.
Comment on five posts from people you'd love to connect with – real, genuine comments, not just a heart emoji.
Reply to five stories by tapping the text bar and typing a response, it's literally like sending a text.
Spend five minutes in a Facebook group where your ideal audience hangs out and leave helpful comments on someone's post.
That's fifteen minutes total. You can do it while your coffee brews.
Ask questions on your posts.
You don't need a perfectly edited graphic to start a conversation. Just type a question.
What's one thing you wish you had more time for? Coffee or tea – wrong answers only. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
These take seconds to write and get people talking on your profile, which is exactly what you want.
Respond to every comment and DM.
When someone takes the time to engage with your content, respond every single time.
This isn't a tech skill. It's a people skill. And it's the one that matters the most.
Think of every comment as someone raising their hand saying hey, I see you. Your job is to say hey, I see you too.
Step 3: Promote – Share What You Have (With Your Phone Camera and a Caption)
Forget funnels, email automations, and landing pages for now. You don't need any of that to start.
The “what I use” post.
Take a photo of you actually using your product, not a stock image from your company, just you in your kitchen or at your desk using the thing.
Write a caption like: “A lot of people ask me about this. Here's what I've been using for the last [time period] and honestly [result you've experienced]. If you want more details just comment below and I'll send you the info.”
That's it. No app required.
Use voice DMs.
If typing long messages feels overwhelming, use voice messages instead. When someone shows interest, hold down the microphone button and talk.
Say something like: “Hey, I saw you commented on my post – I'm so glad! Let me tell you a little about what I've been using and you can tell me if it sounds like a fit.”
Voice messages are personal, warm, and they convert incredibly well because people can hear your genuine enthusiasm.
Go live for five minutes.
No editing, no filters, no do-overs. Set a timer. Share one tip, one story, or one thing you love about your product.
The rawness is what makes it work. As the world goes more AI and more polished, people crave real.
And here's a secret – barely anyone watches lives in real time. Most people watch the replay. So even if zero people show up live it still becomes a piece of content that keeps working for you.
Just make sure you save it because lives only last 30 days now.
Your Simple 7-Day Content Plan
Write it down, stick it on your fridge, and follow it for 30 days.
Monday | Question post – just type it |
Tuesday | Photo with a short story caption |
Wednesday | 5-5-5 engagement day – no posting required |
Thursday | Value tip text post |
Friday | Short Reel or Story using your phone camera |
Saturday | “What I use” promo post |
Sunday | Rest – or go live for 5 minutes if you want to go all in |
Nothing on this list requires a single app download.
Nothing requires you to understand algorithms or SEO or any of that.
Just your phone, your face, and a little consistency.
