You’ve decided to dive right in.

You’ve signed up to join an MLM.

You’ve done your research. You have a game plan. Your most common search engine search is “MLM tips,” and you’ve taken a lot of those tips to heart.

But how ready are you?

You think about all the things you need to learn now.

Surely, there must be an easier way to navigate all of this than just drowning out here on your own.

And there is.

A good mentor is the key to getting your business set up for success.

Why You Need a Mentor

Everyone can benefit from using a mentor in their network marketing business. You won’t start your business blind; your upline will walk you through the first steps. But most uplines are not utilizing all the tools that you can and should to reach success with your business. Many still preach cold prospecting strategies and home parties that they learned when they joined.

A mentor is someone who is ready to take your business to the next level. Their whole goal is to help you find success in innovative and new ways.

If what your upline teaches you is helpful, that is great. But for most people who are after growing their business, their upline isn’t enough, and they need a mentor.

Here are some reasons you will want to get a mentor and never look back. Mentors can:

Show You What Not to Do

Starting out, you’re going to make some mistakes.

It’s okay! Everyone does.

But what is the best way to minimize those mistakes? Have someone there to warn you and help you figure things out.

They’ve already been there—no need for you to spend a lot of time learning things the hard way. Maybe you are focusing too strongly on your friends and family, and you’re exhausting or straining those relationships. Maybe you’re focusing too much on sales and not on fostering relationships that could lead to potential recruits. Whatever mistakes you make along the way, someone has made them before you. A mentor can help you hop back up after you fall.

Be Your IT Guru

Let’s be honest: tech can be confusing, especially if it’s something new to you.

Instead of trying to become an expert on managing different sites and platforms all at once, a mentor can help guide you. They will be familiar with the best practices on each platform, how to work with (instead of against) the algorithm, and how to create compelling content.

Hold You Accountable

Without someone to report to about your goals, it can be easy to let them slide. Having someone who will hold you accountable for following through on your goals increases your likelihood of success.

You might have struck the upline gold mine if yours engages and helps you set and reach goals. Not all uplines are capable of leading teams, though. Sometimes, they just recruit individuals without providing the support that new recruits crave. If your upline is not providing a supportive environment that helps foster your desire for growth, a mentor can fill that hole for you.

Be Your Cheerleader

We’re all cheering you on; you just can’t always see it. A mentor who checks on you regularly will help cheer you on both when you have successes and when you have failures.

They can help you refocus your perspective and keep your spirits up when you need a little lift.

Provide a Walking Catalog

You can glean information from their product knowledge if your mentor is within the same MLM. If they’ve been at this longer than you, they will be more familiar with everything you’re selling.

You will want to familiarize yourself with everything your company offers, and they can help you.

Not only will they know more about the products, but they’ll also be able to let you know which products sell better. Take in all the tips you can from your mentor and other MLM masterminds.

Be the Self-Help Guide You Didn’t Know You Needed

Listening to a TED talk about how you need to not hit the snooze button is nice and all, but sometimes it’s nice to take self-help tips from someone who actually sees you as a real person.

A mentor can show you how they organize their week. You can learn how to set realistic goals. Your mentor can teach you communication skills and best practices for business.

When you can see that this is working for them, it’s easier to be open to their suggestions.

Help with Conversions

The “sales end” of sales can sometimes be intimidating, especially if you aren’t familiar with sales. Your mentor can teach you the best way to convert your prospects into customers. Between the best wording to use and the best way to entice customers, your mentor will be a great resource to you as you figure out how to succeed in multi-level marketing.

Expand Your Network

When you take on a mentor, you’re expanding your own network to include them. Someone well-connected can be an excellent resource for you and your growing business.

You might find that one of their contacts is helpful to you in another aspect of your business. You can’t succeed in network marketing without a strong network.

We’re Looking At You. Yes, You!

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably very independent with a little dose of stubbornness.

It’s easy to think that mentors might be helpful to other people, but you can just figure it out on your own.

And you might be able to.

It’ll just be a whole lot harder.

Mentors can help the transition from freshly signed up to a whiz. But they aren’t just for the brand new recruits. If you are feeling stuck in your business, seek out a mentor before you decide to throw in the towel.

Wherever you are in your network marketing journey, you can learn a lot from a successful mentor.
