From the time we’re small, everyone loves a good story.
Whether it’s the three little pigs at bedtime or the underdog Olympic athlete who has made their gold-medal dream a reality on a global stage, stories really capture us.
You can use the tool of storytelling to reach the hearts of your prospects and turn them into recruits.
What should you share? How should you share it? And why does it work?
Stay tuned, and we will help you see the magic behind becoming a storyteller.

Share Your Story
You don’t need to start on the dark, rainy night when you were born. Instead, let your potential recruits know what your journey looked like before you started network marketing online.
Tell them the pain points you experienced.
Share what made life hard for you at that time.
Divulge what drew you to this particular company you’re with now. Let them see how joining this company solved your problems.
Maybe you were skeptical.
Maybe you had some doubts.
But you stuck with it, and that got you where you are today. Let them see that you have a path similar to their own, and they will feel seen, validated, and curious.
Share Others’ Stories
You won’t be able to relate to everyone – And that’s ok!
But the larger your team grows, the more likely you’ll be able to find someone who can relate to prospects.
Don’t know a single parent?
You probably have one in your downline or upline who can share their story.
Can’t think of a friend or relative who is a college student trying to make a few bucks in their demanding school schedule?
You can probably find one on your team.
Share Your Goals
Let your prospects know that where you are today isn’t the end of your story.
Fill them in on what you plan to do in the future.
Let them know your goals and dreams and how you are building your network marketing business for the future.
If your prospects can look at where you are in your business and see that there’s even more room to grow, they will see their own potential and the possibilities that lay ahead of them.
Share with Everyone
Practice sharing your story whenever you can.
Don’t be pushy or obnoxious about it.
Just let it naturally come up.
The more you do it, the more you’ll be able to tell which parts really resonate with people.
Why Do Stories Work?
There are a number of reasons why storytelling is such a powerful tool when it comes to network marketing.
Here are a few:
Emotional Connection
When you tell a touching story, you are evoking strong emotions in your prospects.
This is even more powerful when the emotions hit close to home for them and their personal struggles.
Emotional connections are also more memorable.
If your story tugs at the heartstrings, your prospects are going to keep that story with them more than if you were droning on about compensation plans or commissions.
Simplification
Rather than being bombarded with data and statistics, a story allows a prospect to see more simply how you fit the network marketing life in with your own.
You can let them know what made a difference to you as you began your journey, and they will be able to see themselves in your shoes.
Trust
When you are transparent and sincere, your recruits will know it.
Be vulnerable.
You will build up your credibility and create a sense of trust between you and your potential recruits.
You are more likely to sign up prospects who trust you than someone who finds you questionable.
Inspiration
Your story may inspire your potential recruit to take action in their own lives. They can see what’s possible because you made it so.
Your words can help them visualize the difference this company can make for them.
Engagement
No matter how great the opportunity you are presenting, glazed eyes will most likely come out at some point if it is just a shower of facts and statistics.
Narratives make pitches interesting.
Stories make listening more fun.
Share Creatively
Gone are the days when you need to find someone in a literal elevator to give them an elevator pitch.
Now, you can reach an audience of hundreds to millions of viewers simply by putting your content out there for them to see.
You don’t need to become a big-time influencer.
But the more people you reach, the more likely you are to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
The algorithms love creativity and consistency.
So, go practice telling your story.
And don’t ever stop.
